Arlington Court, Arlington, Barnstaple, Devon
Another gem from the National Trust, Arlington Court near Barnstaple is not just an impressive Regency country house, but also the National Trust Carriage Museum showcasing an important collection of over forty horse drawn vehicles from state chariots to two wheeled child’s carriages.
The collections in the house are fascinating – over 3,000 shells, pewter, model ships and costumes, all amassed by over 11 generations of the family who lived here! The formal Victorian gardens are breathtaking with an ornate historic conservatory overlooking an ornamental pond, all so quintessentially English. There's also a walled kitchen garden and Pleasure Grounds; the wider estate takes in over 20 miles of footpaths across beautiful countryside with woodland walks and play areas. In true NT style Arlington Court has a second hand bookshop and a tea room, set in what was once the kitchens. A good place to visit when you're staying nearby on your large group holidays in Devon.
Open March to October Parking, shop and café, dogs welcome in the grounds on leads.
