Belluno, Axminster, Devon
Belluno is an Italian restaurant and bar that brings a taste of Naples to the sleepy little town of Axminster not far from the coast of East Devon. There aren’t many places to eat in town so if you’re passing through on your way back from the coast during your large group holiday in the West Country, this should do you fine.
Inside is spacious with high ceilings and big windows onto the street; when it’s busy the atmosphere is a big, lively happy one. If it’s lunchtime you can opt for 2 or 3 dishes from the Lunch Special Menu, otherwise there’s an A La Carte menu with everything you’d expect – Antipasti, pizza, pasta, risotto, meat and fish dishes, or something from the House Flame Grill.
The kind of mains you could be tucking into include Linguine Pescatore (king prawns, mussels, white crab, cherry tomato, white wine, light cream tomato sauce & chilli & garlic butter), Involtini di Angello (slow cooked rolled lamb, pickled courgettes, mint leaves, truffle mash puree, served with lamb gravy), and Risotto ai Funghi (risotto rice, wild mix mushrooms, vegetable broth, mascarpone, parmesan, truffle oil, & micro herbs). They like to use fresh local ingredients, hopefully that includes fish and seafood landed daily just a few miles away at Beer and Lyme Regis.
