Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary, Lyndhurst, New Forest, Hampshire
Of course there are plenty of deer in the New Forest but it’s not easy to spot them - unless you go to Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary; they have a viewing platform that overlooks a meadow where fallow deer feed. Even so, it’s not guaranteed that you’ll see them but it’s pretty likely between April and September as the local keeper feeds them every day then, and they usually hang about in the meadow waiting for their lunch.
Whilst you’re at Bolderwood you should have a stroll round; there are short graded walks, but if you’ve got your hiking boots on there’s no reason why you can’t go further. The other thing to do if you’re planning a visit to the deer sanctuary is to take a picnic; sit out in the open or if you want to escape the blazing heat of the sun, find a cool spot beneath the trees.
