This family run smokery between Ilminster and Langport has been going for almost 40 years and has earned itself an excellent reputation over the years, particularly for the smoked eel and salmon they produce. What's good is that they haven't gone all big and industrial; they still do their hot and cold smoking in small batches with certain things smoked to order. Happy customers include Fortnum & Mason and The Ivy.
They have a shop at Brown and Forrest with over 40 products stocked, among them smoked meats and poultry, fish, pate, sausages and smoked halloumi, as well as cheeses, garlic, sea salt, nuts, savoury biscuits and locally produced drinks. Go and have a browse and the chances are you'll find something that you can't resist. The on-site restaurant serves food from the smokers with salad, new potatoes, bread and roasted veg, keeping it nice and simple. They also have soups, quiches, terrines and pies, plus some very tempting delights for anyone with a sweet tooth.
