Burrow Farm Gardens, Dalwood, Axminster, Devon
Burrow Farm Gardens are tucked away in the hills of East Devon, amidst the glorious scenery of the Axe Valley between Honiton and Axminster, so in a way it’s something of a secret garden really, but once you’ve been there it’s hard to keep quiet about it because it’s so very lovely. What they’ve done here is breathtaking, with constant colour throughout the year in 13 acre grounds that include sweeping lawns, a woodland garden, azalea glade, rose garden and wildflower meadow, all with the backdrop of that spectacular far reaching countryside.
Potter about to your heart’s content and then go to the Tea Rooms and take your time over a proper job Devon cream tea with big fat homemade scones, great big dollops of jam, and of course, lashings of cream. They also serve light lunches and snacks from 10am-5pm; fill your bellies and then go to the little gift shop and treat yourself to a keepsake to take home with you.
That’s the effect Burrow Farm Gardens has on you, you see; it somehow makes you feel very special just to be there, and you feel inclined to linger and to treat yourself. It’s an oasis of bucolic clam; make the most of it.
