Butcombe Trail, The Mendip Hills, Somerset

If you count walking and beer among your favourite things then walking the Butcombe Trail is a must whilst you’re on your UK holiday in Somerset. Covering a 47 mile circular loop in the unspoilt wildness of the Mendip Hills, the trail links six pubs owned by Butcombe Brewery – so you certainly won’t be short of refreshments along the way.

47 miles is a big walk, but it’s easy to do waymarked shorter sections, among the stopping points are the historic market town of Axbridge, Cheddar with its famous caves and gorge, and for proper country pubs, The Queen Victoria at Priddy and The Queens Arms at Bleadon.

The beer is good, but it’s hard to beat the beautiful scenery and spectacular views across the Somerset countryside.
