Castle & Ball, Marlborough, Wiltshire
The Castle & Ball is very much a traditional pub, right on the High Street in Marlborough. It’s a lovely old building and apparently some of the timbers pre-date the Spanish Armada, but that’s not to say the pub hasn’t been brought the 21st century. It’s a kind of no fuss, no frills kind of place, a good honest pub that has a good choice of booze and serves proper job pub food. They open early for breakfast so it’s a good one for the Full English, or go later on in the day for something from the main menu – steaks, garden salads, burgers, Steak & kidney pudding, Atlantic fish & chips, Smoky Bean Chilli, Slow cooked lamb shoulder, and lighter bites besides, like jackets and sarnies.
Dogs are welcome but not in the restaurant; out the back there’s a beer garden.
