Castle Neroche, Somerset
In the beautiful Blackdown Hills National Landscape/AONB, Castle Neroche is a good place to go and stretch your legs when you're on a large group holiday in Somerset. This former Norman motte-and-bailey castle and Iron Age fort has tracks, bridleways and footpaths to explore, with walks of varying lengths taking you through evergreen forests and broadleaf woodlands; there are lots of up and downs, including a few steep ascents and descents, little hills to climb, and spectacular views out over the Vale of Taunton. Children love it here - they can run around and let off steam, all the while taking in wholesome fresh air. There’s a car park, information boards, and a picnic area, so pack your egg sarnies, sausage rolls and lemonade; otherwise, make your way down to The Greyhound Inn at Staple Fitzpaine or stop at La Campagna on the A303.
