Clatworthy Reservoir, Nr Wiveliscombe, Somerset
High up in the Brendon Hills on the edge of Exmoor National Park, the 130 acre Clatworthy Reservoir supplies water to over 200,000 homes. This is a fantastic place to be - peaceful and secluded - you can see why it’s a favoured spot for walking and fishing. The lake is well stocked with rainbow and brown trout that can be caught from the bank or out on the waters in a boat. Walkers can take the short nature trail or walk the 5 mile perimeter of the reservoir; it’s worth taking binoculars with you because the wide ranging habitat makes it excellent for wildlife. The steep bracken banks and ancient woodland are home to a diversity of species - bats, birds, butterflies, moths, insects and wildflowers.
Boats, including wheelchair accessible craft are only available to anglers (this isn't a lake for playing on), there are loos, a picnic area and parking. If you forget your sandwiches, pop up to Raleghs Cross Inn for a carvery, or on your way home stop off in Wiveliscombe at The Bear Inn for a pizza.
