This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services offered to all guests/visitors. Introduction
Coat Barn is a luxury barn conversion that sleeps 18 guests in 8 ensuite bedrooms and has an indoor swimming pool.
4 of the bedrooms are on the ground floor, and the other 4 are on the first floor, accessed via 2 oak staircases.
Pre-Arrival
By train - The nearest train station is at Yeovil Pen Mill (25 mins) or Castle Cary (30 mins).
By bus - The nearest bus station is at Yeovil, approximately 8 miles away. There is a bus that goes through Martock, but not all the way to Coat.
By car - You will be given detailed directions in your check-in information once you have made a booking.
All major supermarkets deliver to this property.
Accessible equipment can be hired and arranged upon request in advance of arrival, although there is one set of large ramps and a shower stool always available. Other items can be arranged via independent providers e.g. The Red Cross.
Coat Barn is not wheelchair friendly as bathrooms are difficult to access and there are steps throughout the barn (including to the main entrance); there are also narrow corridors.
Key Collection, Welcome and Car Parking
The key to the property is held in an external key safe next to the main entrance door. Details of the key safe combination will be given prior to arrival via your Check In Information.
All keys are the responsibility of the rental guests and we advise that you always use the key safe during your stay.
All guests will be welcomed by a property manager and will be given a tour of the property.
From the road there is a tarmac drive to a private car parking area with enough room for approximately 8 cars.
From the car parking area there are several steps to the front doors.
The entrance is lit at night by light sensor lights.
There are varying floor levels throughout the property.
Entrance to Property
There are 4 steps down to the level of the Barn and then a 6" step up into the property through the main door. There is also courtyard access where there is also a small step.
There is wood flooring throughout the ground floor and carpet on the first floor. All bathrooms are tiled.
There is a step into the swimming pool block and stairs up to the games room on the first floor of this building.
The floor levels very throughout the barn, so there are steps throughout the first floor.
Ground Floor
Access to the open plan lounge, dining and kitchen areas is via the main entrance hall.
Sitting Room/Lounge
The room measures 12m x 4m.
All areas are evenly lit with spotlights and lamps.
The floor surface is tiled and level throughout.
The room has a mixture of chairs and sofas.
Furniture can be moved, but on your departure it should be put back to its original position.
There is a television with Sky and Sky sub titles, remote control and the option for subtitles/audio description.
The area is well lit during the day by natural light. At night there are ample spotlights and overhead lighting, along with a floor standing light.
There is under floor heating or radiators throughout.
Kitchen
The kitchen area is large and spacious. 2 big double doors lead through to the dining area.
Bedrooms and Sleeping Areas (NB: None of the bathrooms are wheelchair accessible)
All bedrooms have zip and link double beds; there is a TV in each room, and overhead plus bedside lighting.
Bedroom 1 - accessed through a door 800mm wide into a room measuring 5.5 x 3.2m. The ensuite shower room is accessed through a door measuring 750mm and is 3.2m x 5.5m.
Bedroom 2 - accessed through a door 800mm wide into a room measuring 2.2m x 1.7m. The ensuite shower room is accessed through a door measuring 800mm.
Bed 3 - accessed through a door 800mm wide into a room measuring 4.35m x 2.85m. The ensuite shower room is accessed through a door from the bedroom measuring 750mm, and can also be accessed from the hallway via a door of the same width. This shower room has been adapted to DDA regulations and is comprised of a fully accessible wet room shower, hand rails, Mira shower with care kit including extra long hose and riser rail, low level basin and WC.
Bed 4 - accessed through a door 750mm wide into a room measuring 5.65m x 3.5m. The ensuite shower room is accessed through a door measuring 700mm to a room measuring 2.8m x 1.45m.
Bed 5 - accessed through a door measuring 750mm wide into a room measuring 3.2m x 3.5m. The ensuite bathroom is accessed through a door measuring 700mm wide to a room measuring 1.5m x 2.85m.
Bed 6 - accessed through a door measuring 750mm wide into a room measuring 4.7m x 3.5m. The ensuite shower room is accessed through a door measuring 700mm wide to room measuring 2.2m x 2.65m.
Garden
There is a large courtyard garden at Coat Barn. The centre is lawned, surrounded on all sides by a paved patio area that has steps up to 2 different levels. This can be accessed from Bedroom 6 and 7 via French doors and from the lounge/dining area via a large oak door.
By the parking there is a barked area of garden with play equipment (NB: Children are to be supervised at all times).
There is a garden table and patio chairs for 14 guests.
Swimming Pool (NB: Children must be supervised at all times)
Access to the pool hall is through a set of double doors. There are steps up to the swimming pool and stairs to the games area which is on the first floor.
The pool is a constant depth of 1.2m and measures 8.9m x 3.75m. There are corner steps into the pool, but there is no hand rail.
On two sides of the pool there is a paved surround with room for 2 people to pass. This measures 1.2m widening to 1.9m.
