Culbone Church, near Porlock Weir, Somerset
If you’re out and about exploring Exmoor National Park, don’t miss the lovely walk up over the cliffs to the tiny church of St. Beuno at Culbone; said to be the smallest parish church in England, seating only 33 people. Nestled in a woodland glade, the church can only be reached on foot along the coast path and was used as the setting for John Rudd’s wedding in a televised version of Lorna Doone. Up on the hillside are the romantic remains of Lord Byron’s daughter’s gothic mansion and tunnels carved in the hillside by 19th century explorers; don’t miss the spectacular views of the Bristol Channel on the way up.
