Dean Heritage Centre, Gloucestershire
Visit the Dean Heritage Centre at Soudley in the Forest of Dean and you’ll find five acres of family fun in a beautiful forest setting; five galleries, outdoor displays, and a fascinating museum telling the story of the forest from the ice age to the present day. There are events and exhibitions throughout the year, plus craft demonstrations, and heaps more to see and do; have a leisurely picnic, pick up one of the walking trails, go and see the Forester’s Cottage, dress up in the Victorian schoolroom, let the kids have a romp in the woodland playground, or they can let off steam on an indoor or outdoor activity trail. Join in a ferret walk, admire the chainsaw carvings, go to the mill pond and see if you can spot moorhens and kingfishers, watch a charcoal burning demonstration, visit the free mine dug in to the side of the hill, learn how the water wheel generates electricity. Then go and have a bite to eat in the café and visit the shop and choose something nice to take a home as a momento of your day out.
