Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire
Opened in 1891, with a performance by Lillie Langtree, mistress to Edward VII, Everyman Theatre is one of the many jewels in Cheltenham’s crown. What a beauty this place is, with a sumptuous main auditorium rich in Victorian architecture and décor – you can just imagine it in Regency times, with the all the applause, and roses thrown from the galleries.
They have very good live performance here including plays, musicals, comedy and live music, with some well-known names. Conveniently, the Everyman is right in the town centre, so you can go for dinner before a show then stroll on to the theatre. Or you could catch up in the café, either pre-show, or during the day when you can swing by for coffee, brunch, lunch and cake.
You can even book a guided tour of The Everyman Theatre; that way you get to see what goes on behind the scenes. You’ll visit the dressing rooms, have a bird’s eye view of the stage, and the workings beneath it – the trap doors and so on. All very exciting and perfect for lovies enjoying a large group holiday in Gloucestershire.
