Exeter Underground Passages, Exeter, Devon

Beneath the hustle and bustle of Exeter's busy city centre are Exeter Underground Passages, built in Medieval times to bring clean drinking water from springs outside the city walls. These are the only passageways of this kind open to the public in the whole country, so for something unique when you're on your large group holiday in Devon, book up a guided tour. It’s dark and narrow and a little confined in places so if you suffer from claustrophobia, it's probably not for you. Wear sensible shoes because the floor is uneven and wet in places, and wear warm clothes because it's surprisingly chilly underground.

Advanced booking is essential, and note that the tours are not suitable for children aged under 5 years.
