Ferne Animal Sanctuary, near Chard, Somerset

Ferne Animal Sanctuary is dedicated to saving the lives of unwanted and abandoned animals, and a lot of them live here, amidst 72 acres of rolling Somerset countryside in the Blackdown Hills.  It’s such a peaceful place, with a sensory garden, and in the thatched farmhouse, a café that serves delicious home cooked light bites and cakes. Amble around the paths, see the animals happy in this wonderful environment where they are loved and cared for; sheep and goats, pigs and horses, chinchillas, ferrets, rabbits and guinea pigs. There’s a dog paddock and a cattery, with a big focus on rehoming these animals, and you’ll see ducks and chickens roaming free.
There’s a woodland play area and nature trail for the little ones to enjoy, though be sure to supervise by the dragonfly pond and lily pond; take a rest on the Butterfly Seating and see what flutters by. Ferne Animal Sanctuary is just off the A30 so can be easily reached from your Sleeps12 large group holiday accommodation, or make a detour on your way to the coast.
