Fire and Iron Gallery, Leatherhead, Surrey

If metal art is your thing, you have to get yourself down to Fire and Iron Gallery on the edge of Leatherhead, because this is THE gallery for that, showcasing the work of over 200 British and international makers working with all kinds of metal as a creative medium – iron, bronze, brass, stainless steel, aluminium, silver gold, it’s all there, even scrap metal. It’s astounding what these artists have made, so really, even if this isn’t necessarily your favourite art form you should still go and take a look and we bet you’ll be amazed.

The gallery is set off by the backdrop of the outbuildings and gardens of a stunning red brick Plantagenet house built in 1346 (how old?). There are life size steel animals, weather vanes, garden sculptures, log baskets, beds, lamps, jewellery, even a gold plated brass and copper corset – you certainly don’t see many of those!

Events, open days and workshops are run throughout the year at Fire and Iron Gallery, often with demonstrations by blacksmiths and other metal workers. Well worth a visit.
