Furzey Gardens, Minstead, nr Lyndhurst, New Forest, Hampshire
There are some things you feel like keeping to yourself, but we have to share this as really, no holiday in the New Forest would be complete without a visit to Furzey Gardens near Lyndhurst. It’s a very beautiful and peaceful place with a magical charm of its own, and children love it there. There are 10 acres of informal woodland gardens to explore, changing through the seasons but never losing their allure, with an extensive collection of rare plants from around the globe. Look carefully amongst the gnarly roots of the trees and you may see a few little fairy doors; there’s even a fairy post box where children can leave letters for the little folk. There are play areas too, a Bug Barn, and a Look Out Tower in the trees, and if you aren’t quite ready to leave, go and settle yourself at a table in the Gallery Gift and Coffee Shop and have a nice piece of cake. Gorgeous.
Furzey Gardens is run as a social enterprise that helps to support people with learning disabilities; entrance is by donation so please be generous for this very worthy cause.
