Fyne Court, Broomfield, Somerset

Fyne Court nature reserve and visitor centre high up in the Quantock Hills is a joy to visit; it’s a good one for families, with waymarked trails, woodlands and ponds to explore, and wildlife to look out for. Go to the cobbled courtyard and you’ll find leaflets and maps showing you the various routes, and you can have a game of Giant Jenga, and see the few outbuildings that were left after the big house was destroyed by fire at the end of the 19th century. It’s a nice peaceful place to visit, where you can really be in the moment, watching autumn leaves twirling to the ground, listening to birdsong or looking out for dragonflies over the pond. Have a good ramble and then return to the tea shop for a cake or a baked potato or settle down at a picnic bench with your sandwiches. Dogs are welcome so the family pooch needn’t be left out of the fun.
