Gheluvelt Park, Worcester, Worcestershire

Gheluvelt Park in Worcester is a memorial park, built in honour of the men who lost their lives in the First World War. As with many such green spaces in cities, it has a certain air of peace and apart from being nice for a leisurely stroll or a picnic, it's a good refuge from the busyness of the shops and streets. There are two different parts to Gheluvelt – one is more quintessential municipal park and the other is an informal wildlife area, but both are equally lovely.

People come here to enjoy the open space, to get their exercise, catch up with friends, or just lie on the grass and read a book; really, it’s the kind of place where everyone quietly goes about their way. It’s popular with families too, becuase there's plenty to amuse younger people, including a Splashpad and play area, as well as tennis courts, outdoor table tennis (you’ll need your own bats), and an outdoor gym circuit.

Open from 11.00am every day from April-Sept.
