Gomshall, Guildford, Surrey
Gomshall is an attractive village not far from Guildford in the Surrey Hills; it’s quite a peaceful place even though the A25 runs through the centre, but get off the main street and it all changes. The village evolved largely during the milling industry as it’s right on the banks of the River Tillingbourne and you can still see some of the former mills, along with characterful historic houses and old tannery buildings. Gomshall is a good starting point for walks along the river – there are some good ones that are about 6 miles or so long, or you can pick up part of the North Downs Way and hike on as far as you like. Whilst you’re in this neck of the woods you might like to stop for a bite to eat at Gomshall Mill, or to have a mooch around Netley Park.
