Great Wood, The Quantocks, Somerset
If you're staying in Somerset on your large group holiday in the UK and you spend a day exploring the wild beauty of the Quantock Hills Natural Landscape, go to Great Wood, not far from Nether Stowey. Walk along the banks of ancient beech trees, on a soft carpet of pine needles through towering conifers, or explore on bike or on horseback. There are waymarked routes of varying lengths and if you’ve got a good pushchair you’ll have no trouble getting tiny tots about. Watch out for the wildlife and you might see the ravens and buzzards that live here; if you’re very, very quiet you may even see red deer.
There’s a car park and loos, and a picnic area with tables and barbecues you can use, otherwise tie in your walk with a visit to Coleridge Cottage and lunch at The Ancient Mariner.
