Hauser & Wirth, Bruton, Somerset
A small town in Somerset might not be quite where you’d expect to find a world class art gallery, but when Hauser & Wirth was established in the restored farm buildings at Durslade Farm on the edge of Bruton, the brains behind it certainly knew what they were doing. It’s still a working farm and it all works wonderfully, somehow the contemporary art and the landscaped garden seem to blend perfectly with the verdant fields and the rolling hills. It’s an amazing place to be, thought provoking, fulfilling and it provides a brilliant art experience. Exhibitions change regularly and there are a number of events – talks, workshops and screenings, and educational programmes.
Within Hauser & Wirth is Roth Bar & Grill, a lively restaurant where ingredients are largely sourced from the free-range farm; the décor is gorgeously eclectic with lots of original artworks, as you’d expect. Go for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner.
