Once a year, in a huge field just outside the town, the Honiton Agricultural Show is held, and boy, it really pulls the crowds – from miles and miles around, just as it’s been doing since 1890 when it began.
It’s grown over the years to become one of the biggest agricultural shows in the country attracting locals, business men and holidaymakers alike. Get a ticket or rock up on the day and you’ll find a vibrant and happy atmosphere with absolutely heaps going on – entertainment, livestock shows, rural skills, a dog show, donkey rides, Punch & Judy, and countless stalls selling produce, arts and crafts. Not to be missed is the food hall where there’s plenty of opportunity to try and buy all manner of local goodies.
Admission is free for children under 16 if they’re accompanied by an adult; you can take the dog as long as you keep him on a lead and don’t take him in the food hall, and mobility scooters are available to hire (T: 01626 335775).
