House on the Hill - Accommodation
Go through the porch to the wide reception hall at House on the Hill; straightaway you get a taste of the exquisite interiors at this enormous holiday house; Parquet flooring, antique rugs, impressive artworks. Straight ahead is the garden room, to the right is the kitchen, a huge and sociable space flooded with light from full height windows and skylights. Hefty oak timbers soar to the roof, there are sofas at the end of the room, and in the middle a chunky dining table; pile it high for a lavish celebration feast.
Left of the hall a book-lined corridor leads to the sitting room; curl up for story time with the little ones, in the winter light the fire, share a tray of hot buttery toast. Carry on to the drawing room where big fat sofas await you and a picture window looks out across the hills. Gather for drinks and canapes, spill out onto the terrace when it’s warm; spend cosy winter evenings in front of the fire, playing games, sharing stories.
Above the hall there’s a minstrel’s gallery, somewhere to quietly chat, to read or to sit wool gathering. Off this are Bedrooms 1 -3; Bedroom 1 has a super king bed, an ensuite bathroom, and a dressing room that sleeps 2 extra guests (charged) and has its own shower room. Bedroom 2 has a super king bed and an ensuite bathroom, Bedroom 3 is all heavenly pink and roses, with a super king bed and a shower room.
Back downstairs, through the kitchen there’s a utility/boot room and a laundry room. The boot room has access from outside, so it’s perfect for kicking off your muddy boots and drying wet dogs after a country walk.
Continue through the rear hall to the movie room, where original film posters adorn the walls. Get comfy on the sofas for a family film night, with bowls of popcorn to pass round. Upstairs off a galleried landing is Bedroom 4 with a super king bed, an ensuite bathroom and a dressing room with 2 single beds. Across the landing, Bedroom 5 has a super king and two singles, so both these rooms are ideal for families.
From the movie room, another hall leads to a second kitchen/living space; this end of the house is great for a family or couple who like their own space. Stairs rise to another landing with a sofa bed for 2 (charged extra); to the left is Bedroom 6, with a king size bed, to the right is Bedroom 7 with twin French beds; both have ensuite bathrooms. Bedroom 8 is on the ground floor next to the living space; it has a king size bed and an ensuite wet room.
At the back of the house, there’s a terrace, a leafy gazebo, an ornamental pond and 7.5 acres of grounds to wander. In the summer mown paths meander through the grass, lawns slope gently down to a pond where ducks dabble; forever in your sights is the beautiful Chalke Valley countryside.
At the front of the house there’s a Mediterranean style courtyard with a pool and adjoining games room with a bar, pool table, table tennis and table football.
