Houses of Parliament, London
Right on the banks of the River Thames, the Houses of Parliament, or Westminster Abbey, is the seat of the two parliamentary houses of the UK – the House of Lords and the House of Commons. If you're planning a trip to London, you can pre-book for a tour of both houses and of the historic Westminster Hall, as well as tours of the House of Commons Library, and Big Ben and the Elizabeth Tower.
Another thing you can do is watch debates and committees, like Prime Minster’s Questions, or attend public talks and events. It’s quite something to say you’ve been in the Houses of Parliament and to feel that you’ve had a little piece of this very important part of the country’s history, which is one reason why it’s not such a bad thing for families to do together. There’s over 1,000 years of history here, not to mention a notable art collection and incredible architecture. The Houses of Parliament are accessible and have a café, gift shop and multi-faith prayer room.
Open for tours on Saturdays and most weekdays throughout the year. Tickets can be booked online .
