The Lake Grounds in Portishead are the town’s main green space, running alongside the esplanade next to the seafront and its spectacular coastal views beyond. This is where local people and visitors come to relax and enjoy themselves in their free time, so you’ll see them quietly getting on with whatever they’ve come here for - walking the dog, taking the children to one of the play areas, or jogging around the boating lake where there are ducks, geese and swans.
The Lake Grounds are home to Portishead’s tennis and bowls clubs, and at the far end is the much-used open air lido and café. There’s a nice feel about it here, a contented ambience, especially in the summer months, when people are happily playing traditional park games and picnicking on the grass. You can hire boats to go rowing on the lake then come back to the waterside café for a bite to eat.
