Lechlade, Gloucestershire
Lechlade, or Lechlade-on-Thames, to give it its correct name, is a lovely little town for a wander round when you’re staying nearby on your large group holiday in the UK. It’s not just the abundance of honey coloured stone buildings that make the town so charming, it’s just got such a nice feel to it; it gets busy in the summer but apart from that, it’s not noticeably commercial.
The location, by the River Thames, is a big draw for visitors and there are some good waterside beer gardens where you can sit and sip a drink while you watch the boats drifting by. You can hire canoes, paddleboards and flamingo pedalos, or if you prefer to keep your feet on dry land, go for a sedate stroll along the Thames Path. You’ll see ducks dabbling, you’ll see swans gliding along, and if you’re very lucky, you might even glimpse a kingfisher zipping across the water.
Have a browse of the antique shops, and even it’s a baking hot day in August, have a look round the Cotswold Christmas Shop, pick up a loaf of sourdough, fill your basket in the greengrocers and deli. Go back to your Sleeps12 holiday house happy and smiley.
