Lifton, Devon
Lifton, on the edge of Dartmoor National Park and right on the border of Devon and Cornwall, has been a whole lot quieter since the A30 was re-routed; the old trunk road runs through the village, the street being lined with cottages and three pubs. The best is The Arundell, one of the country’s best known sporting hotels which has a very good restaurant, bar and deli. It’s a popular sport for the shooting and fishing fraternity, due to its location close to the River Lyd which provides excellent trout fishing.
Just up the road is Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre, a superb family attraction where you can experience the fun of the fair as it was in bygone times. There is very good walking and cycling to be had from Lifton, venturing up onto the moors where the views are breathtaking.
