Long Man Inn, Wilmington, Polegate, East Sussex
The Long Man Inn is a traditional country pub just off the South Downs Way in Wilmington; its name comes from the 230ft Long Man of Wilmington carved in the chalk slopes above the village, in case you were wondering. Inside is cosy and very much in keeping with the Edwardian building, with original features and a log fire to keep it all toasty in the colder months.
They start early, opening at 7:30am for breakfast and going right through to 11pm serving coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Food is all homemade using local ingredients as much as they possibly can, with all diets catered for. A peek at the Autumn menu reveals delights like Gourmet Burgers, Steaks from the Grill, Venison & ale Stew with dumplings, Wilmington pie of the day with mashed potato or chips, seasonal vegetables & gravy, and Long Man moussaka & garlic bread.
They host regular events like Long Man Curry Nights, Quiz nights, Acoustic Nights and the intriguing Magic Mondays when a local magician comes along to astound you with his tricks.
