Marisco Tavern, Lundy Island, Devon
Originally built as the village store with a very convenient ‘Refreshment Room’ the Marisco Tavern is the only pub on Lundy Island. Inside it’s lovely, as you’d expect because like the rest of the island the pub is in the hands of the Landmark Trust who do a wonderful job of making sure everything is in keeping; the ambience is nice, no doubt a reflection of the happy community who live on the island and who fill the Marisco Tavern with their laughter and merry making.
Of course the Tavern gets its fair share of visitors who come over to Lundy for the day on the boats from Bideford and Ilfracombe, or who come for a holiday at one of the self catering cottages on the island. They come and sit in the garden enjoying the spectacular views, and to tuck into hale and hearty food from a menu of homemade pub favourites. They say it’s very good, so if you’re planning a visit to Lundy, pop in.
