Maritime Museum & Buckler’s Hard Story, Buckler’s Hard, Hampshire
If you decide to visit Buckler’s Hard Village for a day out on your large group holiday in the New Forest, you really ought to go to this museum to find out all about the history of this interesting and idyllic place. It was founded as a port for sugar trading but really prospered as a naval shipbuilding centre in the 18th century when three of the ships that Nelson took to Trafalgar were built here. You can see models of these vessels and how’s about this – see Nelson’s baby clothes! There are displays that reveal how the villagers worked and lived here during those times, and on into the 19th and 20th centuries. Well worth a visit.
