Meadows Drift - Accommodation
Turn off the A30 and pootle up the winding lanes to Meadows Drift, a world away from the push and shove of modern life. Tucked away in the Blackdown Hills AONB, set in 15 acres of private grounds, the views over the Otter Valley roll softly on for miles. It’s a peaceful place to be, which is why it’s so perfect for big family holidays and low key celebrations, days away with friends and sophisticated hen weekends.
50 years ago Meadows Drift served as the apple lofts and linhays on what was then a working farm. After a very sympathetic transformation, it’s now a large and spacious holiday house that sleeps 16. The essential character remains in the thick stone walls, exposed timbers and quirky windows, a backdrop that works so well with the carefully chosen interiors. Think modern-rustic, yet welcoming, with an air of gentleness that pervades throughout the entire house.
Step inside the main door and you’re in the games room where there’s a pool table, table football and table tennis; spectators can get comfy on the sofa, footie fans can watch the latest big match on the widescreen TV. The open plan aspect leads through to the movie room/living room where you can all cosy up for a family film night or just to relax together. Then wander through to the dining room where doors open onto the garden; if you’re here to celebrate a significant birthday or anniversary a long bespoke dining table sets the scene for happy feasts. Gather round, raise a toast and tuck in; make it extra special by booking private caterers (see Extras) to come and do the cooking.
Just off the dining room there’s a WC and Bedroom 6; at the other end is the kitchen, a huge space that’s all geared up for your large group stay. The whole of the ground floor allows for very sociable times, a fantastic opportunity to spend time together, relaxing and being happy. Off the kitchen there’s a shower room and Bedroom 7. What’s great is that 4 of the bedrooms at Meadows Drift have zip and link beds that can be arranged as super kings or twins, giving you flexibility for your stay.
Back in the games room stairs lead to Bedroom 1, which has an ensuite shower room, and Bedroom 2 with an ensuite bathroom. From the movie room/living room stairs take you to Bedroom 3, which has its own shower room, and Bedroom 4, with a bathroom right next to it. Bedrooms 2 and 4 also have a single bed so they’re perfect for families. A third staircase in the dining room leads to Bedroom 5 which has its own shower room. This layout gives you individual sleeping space and it works really well if you’re spending a few days away with families with younger children.
Outside, the huge garden wraps around two sides of the house, with a large patio and lawns where you can run and play to your heart’s content. Outdoor furniture and a barbecue make for leisurely alfresco dining, there’s a hot tub, and a play area and trampoline for the little ones. Beyond the garden are a whopping 15 acres of private grounds with woodlands to stroll through, and walks down across the fields to the riverside – take a picnic, roll up your trouser legs and go for a paddle.
Meadows Drift is such a lovely place to stay for large group holidays in the country. There will be fun, there will be laughter, there will be so many memories to take home and treasure. Book today!
