Menagerie House - Accommodation
You can’t fail to be impressed when you arrive at Menagerie House; this is a large group holiday house with wow factor – that imposing entrance, the columns, the gorgeous Georgian façade. Inside the rooms are arranged over three floors with interiors that are a seamless blend of modern and period style. Go through the porch into a wide and elegant entrance hall and you’ll notice how homely and welcoming it feels.
Straight ahead are stairs to the first floor, off to each side are Bedrooms 4 and 5; these rooms offer great snooze space for families as both have zip and link beds (king size or twin) and an optional extra guest bed that's great for a child. Between the two bedrooms there’s a swish modern bathroom with a bath and overhead shower. These rooms both have doors that open out to steps up to the garden - these are very steep so toddlers and children will need to be supervised at all times.
The whole of the first floor is taken up with a big open plan living and entertaining space. In the middle, stairs lead up to the second floor, to the right is a light and airy living area with inviting sofas, a wood-burner and a TV. On the other side is the kitchen, Shaker style with a modern range cooker, plenty of storage and a central island where you can perch and chat. In the light flooded central bay above the porch, there’s a long dining table that comfortably seats 12, a wonderful spot for breakfast each morning, for lazy lunches and big tuck-in feasts. At the top of the stairs, French doors open onto a covered terrace and a path that leads to the hot tub. You can see why Menagerie House is fantastic for those happy celebrations like milestone birthdays and notable anniversaries; it’s such a sociable place, you can all be together, sing and dance, pop a few corks and make merry.
On the top floor are Bedrooms 1-3, each sleeping 2 guests in zip and link beds, and each having its own shower room. The house has been renovated to a high standard but the essential Georgian character remains and is evident in the numerous original features - high ceilings, big barred windows, alcoves and fireplaces, and on the top floor, thick ceiling beams and exposed wall timbers.
Outside the huge part-walled garden is all yours, so plenty of room to play. Fire up the barbecue, get the steaks sizzling, while away a few hours over a long and leisurely lunch, make an afternoon of it; there’s a lovely big parasol to keep the sun off you, or if it’s still too much, retreat to the shade of the covered area. You can use the hot tub whatever the time of year and once you’re in you won’t be in any hurry to get out, we can tell you, because it’s absolute bliss just sitting back, enjoying a soak with views of uninterrupted countryside that stretch on for miles and miles. It’s just so quintessentially English at Menagerie House, even down to the thwack of leather on willow in the summer from the cricket field the other side of the woods. Seclusion, peace and quiet, birds twittering away, your favourite people with you… it’s like a world of your own untouched by the clamour of life. And that’s exactly what you want from any holiday or short break. Stock up on those happy memories, book today!
