Nunney Castle, Nunney, Frome, Somerset
A visit to Nunney Castle near Frome won’t take up too much of your time, but if you’re out and about when you’re on your large group holiday in Somerset, it’s worth stopping by. The imposing ruins of a 14th century moated castle loom above the village streets, with its great rounded corner towers.
Although the castle is looked after by English Heritage, it’s not manned, but its’ open during daylight hours, and if you stroll across the drawbridge over the moat you can wander amongst the enormous stone walls; the sense of time and place is immense and the setting is lovely – just imagine how much went on here, the lives lived out from medieval times to it’s fall in the English Civil War.
There’s a car park a short walk away, and actually, have a stroll around the village whilst you’re here because it’s an attractive little place, and you could always pop into pub for lunch afterwards.
