Pennywell Farm, Lower Dean, Buckfastleigh, Devon
Heaps of family fun await you at Pennywell Farm not far from Buckfastleigh, so plan ahead and book this in for when you’re on your family holidays in Devon. The little ones will thank you endlessly and they’ll certainly sleep well after a day spent here because there’s so much for them to see and do. There are rides, activities throughout the day and lots of animals to say hello to.
Let’s start with the animals because that’s what the young’uns are going to like best. Have your camera at the ready to take photos of their happy little faces when they meet the miniatures – pigs, donkeys and ponies, and the baby goats and lambs. You’ll see Highland cattle grazing in the fields, a gaggle of poultry waddling about and minding their own business, and even tortoises crawling sedately around. There are the cutest African pygmy hedgehogs, perhaps not so cute ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, alpacas, deer and heavy horses – all creatures big and small live contentedly at Pennywell Farm!
The activity schedule is packed full of exciting things like goat walking, pony pampering, ferret racing and pig feeding. Meet the deer and the hedgehogs, go pond dipping and watch the daily show in the main barn. Make sure you allow time for the rides that are included in your ticket price - the red Rocket for ages 4+, the Run Rabbit Go Karts for the over 8s, and for the whole family, the Rainbow Railway and Tractor and Trailer rides.
There’s no need to worry about going hungry either because you’ll have plenty of choice. The obvious one is to being a picnic (there are plenty of benches) but if you don’t, you can grab something from the coffee shacks or go to Noah’s Barn where there’s also an indoor play area. A treat for the summer is the ice cream kiosk that will tempt you with locally made ice cream and sorbets in fantastic flavours. All in all, a brilliant day out for the whole family.
