River Hamble Country Park, Southampton, Hampshire

At the River Hamble Country Park in Hampshire you can play, picnic, explore, and relax, in whatever order you want to. Be spellbound by the woodland floor when it’s carpeted with bluebells in the springtime, walk ankle deep in leaves admiring the colours in autumn. Take your binoculars with you because you just don’t know what you might see; apart from the bountiful wildflowers there are a myriad insects, as well as reptiles, rodents and mammals, and a multitude of bird life.

Of course, there’s more than enough room for the little ones to let off steam, but there’s a play area too, they’ll like that, and if you take your bats and balls you can all have a game of rounders in the wide open fields.

Within River Hamble Country Park is Manor Farm where you can go to the café for a sandwich and a slice of cake; otherwise take a picnic, or, there’s a kiosk that’s open in the summer season. If an ice cream or a bar of chocolate will suffice you can buy one there, along with a crabbing net so you can see what you can find along the riverbank. A good place for families.
