Riverside - Accommodation
Riverside is a wonderful place to stay for large group family holidays in the UK. Set back off the lane in a sleepy hamlet on the Somerset Levels, the River Tone flows peacefully along at the back of the house and the views across the wetlands are incredible.
This boutique-style rural retreat is light and airy throughout; the feels are gentle and welcoming, enveloping you as soon as you step inside. Go through the porch to the reception/dining room and your troubles tiptoe softly away. The room exudes a sense of restfulness; to one end a plump sofa faces a user-friendly wood-burning stove, there's quirky bookshelf wallpaper in the alcoves, slate floors and soft lamplight. In the middle of the room there’s a chunky dining table for happy family feasts; at the other end of the room is one of the house’s two staircases.
Wander through to the kitchen/breakfast room; to the right is a snug seating area with a built-in settle, to the left a well-equipped Shaker style kitchen. There are 2 dishwashers at Riverside, but you might well make excuses to wash up because that beautiful outlook across the fields is perfect for kitchen sink dreaming! A door opens from the kitchen out onto the river bank - a tranquil spot for morning coffee or a sundowner, but remember that the river is unfenced so young children must be supervised at all times.
Off to the left is a spacious living room where plump sofas entice you to put your feet up; neutral and earthy tones, chenille and velvet, and a wood-burner create a very homely ambience. It’s somewhere to snuggle with the little ones and read stories, to get together for family movie nights with bowls of popcorn to share, or to curl up for a daytime snooze. Off to the right there’s a shower room and WC, and straight through is a garden room/playroom; French doors open to the garden so you can toddle out with the tinies and watch them have fun in the play area.
A second staircase leads from the living room to Bedrooms 1 and 2, both with ensuite shower rooms. Bedroom 1 has a super king bed and Bedroom 2 has a double. The bedrooms at Riverside are all individually furnished so each has its own quirky character. The stairs in the reception/dining room lead to Bedrooms 3-5, a family bathroom and a separate shower room. Bedrooms 3 and 4 have zip and link beds (super king or twin), and Bedroom 5 has a double bed. Bedroom 6 is on the top floor, with zip and link beds and across the landing, a shower room. From here, you can see for miles; the Levels are a haven for wildlife, particularly migratory birds, so keep some binoculars handy because you might spot a rare visitor.
Back downstairs, to the right of the reception/dining room is a lobby with a utility room to one side and a WC to the other. Straight ahead is the games room with a pool table that doubles up for ping-pong or table football. Just outside of the French doors beneath a covered arbour is the hot tub; slip in for a heavenly soak, equally good by day or in the evening. Close the gates and the garden is all secure, fire up the barbecue for a long lazy lunch and while away the afternoon in clover. The little ones will be happy running about on the sun dappled lawn, playing on the swings and the pirate boat, hiding in the living willow hut.
There will be nothing but happy days and peaceful nights at Riverside; there are memories in the making! Book today for family holidays and low key celebrations with the people you love most in the whole wide world.
