Rockfish, Exmouth, Devon
Rockfish is a feast for the tastebuds and the eyes, right next to the slipway in Exmouth, overlooking the beautiful Exe estuary. Just the place to tuck into exquisite seafood that’s sustainable and mostly local, crisply fried, simply grilled or cooked over charcoal, just how it should be. The setting is light and airy with big windows that make you realise how sometimes, it’s difficult to tell where the sea ends and the sky begins.
In the height of summer when the sun is out to play the best place to sit is out on the terrace watching the kite surfers out on the water. On colder days, sit inside nice and cosy with the wood-burner to keep you warm. If you’re down this way on your large group holidays in Devon, push the boat out (‘scuse the pun), sip a fresh and fruit Prosecco and nibble on Crusty baguette with anchovy mayonnaise, Sweet chilli peppers or Green olives from Seville while you wait for your starters – Portland Pearl oysters, Mount’s Bay sardines, or Vegetable tempura with Vietnamese dipping sauce.
Mains could be Prime Brixham hake fillet and unlimited chips, Crispy Rockfish tacos, or Grilled chalk stream trout from the River Test. Otherwise choose from the daily catch and have your food cooked to order. For youngsters under 11 there’s a smaller menu that includes artisan vanilla gelato, so that should keep them happy.
Dogs welcome.
