Roman Baths, Bath, Somerset
Right in the middle of Bath are these remains dating back to 70 AD, originally built as a complex for socialising and bathing. What's staggering is to think that you're walking the same ancient pathways that Romans walked more than 2,000 years ago! Make sure you take it all because it's incredible; have a guided tour, join in the interactive displays, admire the carvings and statues, go to the museum, have tea and cake in the Pump Room Restaurant. You can even take a dip in the heated spring water in the Pump Room so pack your bathing suit. During the summer the baths are open until 10 pm; to see them then, when everything is illuminated by torchlight is something else.
Opening times vary slightly throughout the year but generally, 9.30 - 5.00 is a good time to visit.
