Round the Island Race, Cowes, Isle of Wight, Hampshire
Another reason why crowds flock to the Isle of Wight each summer, and in this case, one of the largest yacht racing events in the world. The Round the Island Race covers a course of 50 nautical miles around the island, starting and finishing at Cowes and taking in the famous Needles along the way. If you ever wondered what over 1,500 boats look like sailing around a small island, well, we can tell you, it really is an incredible spectacle to behold. There are several excellent vantage points where you can watch the boats go by; you’ll see all shapes and sizes of vessel, manned by pros and novices alike. Significantly, several very worthwhile charitable causes benefit hugely from the Round the Island Race.
