Rumwell Farm Shop & Café, Taunton, Somerset
They’ve got it all going on at Rumwell Farm Shop & Café! This family run business on the A38 between Taunton and Bradford on Tone has a massive focus on what’s homegrown and local; on their 600 acre farm in Somerset they raise pigs and Aberdeen Angus cattle, chickens roam free and crops are grown to feed the animals.
Naturally, the farm shop is very well stocked; in fact it’s a veritable Aladdin’s Cave of all manner of local delights – there’s a food hall (fruit and veg, milk, cream, eggs, butter, beer, cider), an award winning bakery (bread, pastries, brownies, cheesecakes, scones, pies, doughnuts), a butcher (home cured bacon, sausages and burgers made on site, beef wellington, pork schnitzels), a jam kitchen where over 50 kinds of jam, marmalade, chutney and fudge are made, and there are gifts, flowers and plants. In other words, there’s not much that you can’t find here, so pop along, fill your basket.
Go early and you might have a Full English in the light and airy café; go a bit later for brunch, or a lunch of tasty home cooked fare. Treat yourselves to afternoon tea or a cream tea, or maybe just a cheese scone and a cuppa. Most of the ingredients are what you see in the shop, so both ways you’re doing your bit for the local community, keeping it real and having a proper job taste of the West Country.
