Salcombe Distilling Company, Salcombe, Devon
At Salcombe Distilling Company they produce award winning gin inspired by the coast around Salcombe and the area’s shipbuilding heritage. If that needs further explanation, back in the 9th century, schooner sailing boats known as Salcombe Fruiters were built in the town and in nearby Kingsbridge; designed to be fast and sail close to the wind, they were the perfect way of transporting cargos of fresh fruit and spices from around the world to England’s ports. It’s those fruits and spices that are the inspiration for the gins distilled here – Aegean Sky features botanicals of Mediterranean bitter citrus and olive, First Light is about classic dry juniper, bright citrus and ginger. If gin is your thing, you’re going to love this.
To visit Salcombe Distilling Company is to have an unforgettable experience; the setting is so apt, right on the water’s edge, so you can arrive in style by boat. The Boathouse Distillery and Bar is sophisticated, with stunning estuary views from the balcony; the perfect setting to sip artisan gin and tonic or a carefully crafted cocktail - and you can even see the 450l copper still in action, which is quite something.
If there’s a group of you staying close by on your holidays in Devon, book a Distillery Tour and Tasting; not only is it a very unique experience, you also get a discount on retail purchases and drinks in the bar.
