Saltford Brass Mill, Saltford, Bristol, Somerset
Wander down to Saltford Brass Mill on the banks of the River Avon when you’re on your large group holidays in Somerset. This Scheduled Monument survives from a group of 18th century mills that were involved in the production of copper and brass goods. See the main Mill Building, the Battery Mill and the Furnace, and the only working waterwheel left out of five that once turned powered the works. There are also displays of brassware, a dynamo and a rolling mill, the latter two being integral parts of the mill when production was underway.
The area around the mill is home to a variety of wildlife including otters, swans, kingfishers and several types of dragonflies, so have a little walk about and see what you can spot. Saltford Brass Mill is open on select days between May and October, so check the website and pop along to see an interesting part of Somerset’s heritage.
