There’s a myriad of maritime history waiting to be discovered at SeaCity Museum; find out all about Southampton’s Titanic Story, see an interactive model of the ill-fated ship that sailed from Ocean dock in 1912, and get a taste of what Southampton was like in those days when it was home to 23 steamship companies. The Disaster Room sets out the events from when the Titanic struck the iceberg, to its sinking and the rescue of passengers.
In the interactive Gateway to the World gallery, you can learn about the comings and goings at Southampton over thousands of years; Roman traders, Saxon settlers, Huguenot Protestants seeking refuge and Victorian industrialists.
It’s amazing how much time passes when you get absorbed in something like this – it really is quite fascinating and it makes you think.
