Seasons Tea Rooms, Ottery St Mary, Devon
We could forgive you for thinking you’d gone back a couple of decades when you see Seasons Tea Rooms in Ottery St Mary because it’s what you call ‘traditional’; lace curtains in the windows, teapots and china plates on display, but you know what they say – don’t judge a book by its cover. This little place gets good reviews so you could give it a try; it’s all a bit old-fashioned, but in a nice way, a way that makes you realise how good it is to slow down and take things for what they are – and besides, the owners are lovely and the food is simple but tasty enough and they don’t skimp on it.
They do breakfasts, lunch and snacks, so you can have a full English, toast and marmalade, a Ploughman’s, a sandwich or just a nice pot of tea and a slice of cake. Don’t all go at once though because it’s not spacious by any means; it’s more one for when a few of you have been browsing around the town and fancy a bite to eat.
