100 acres of wildlife await you courtesy of the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust; Slimbridge Wetland Centre is easily reached from J13 or 14 of the M5 and it’s a lovely day out for the whole family while you’re enjoying your large group holiday in Gloucestershire or Somerset. Pick up a bag of seed at the Grain Desk and within minutes you’ll have ducks, geese and swans eating out of your hands. Venture into Toad Hall and you’ll see frogs, newts and lizards from around the world, and if you’re brave enough, you can hold one them during a daily handling session. Discover the secrets of pond life in the Pond Zone, watch the otter family playing, see harvest mice up close, and look out for the elusive water voles. One thing’s for sure; you’ll be amazed at all the flamingos! Bet you didn’t know they came in so many shades of pink!
Kids love it here: there’s a water playground (Welly Boot Land) and an Outdoor Adventure Playground; you can paddle your way around the watery safari trail in a coracle, or you can board the Wild Safari out onto the wetlands. Chill out in one of the hides, with comfy seating, a telescope and books to help you identify what you see; climb the observatory tower for panoramic views of the Severn estuary.
There are daily guided walks and feeds, and there’s a gift shop. Watch the Caribbean flamingos whilst you have breakfast, lunch, a cream tea, or a snack at the Kingfisher Cafe.
