South Devon Chilli Farm, Loddiswell, Kingsbridge, Devon

If you like a little spice in your life, a visit to South Devon Chilli Farm near Kingsbridge ought to be high on your list when you’re on a group holiday in Devon. Chillis, chillis, chillis, that’s what this place is all about. The people who run it adore them and can tell you anything you want to know about any type of chilli.

The good news is the Chilli Farm is open all year and there’s no entrance fee, but to see the display tunnels you’ll need to go in the growing season, which is May to November. They do mini tours or groups can pre-book a tour, and the little ones will be kept amused with activities, a farm trail and a play area. Most of all you can buy all manner of chilli related goodies in the farm shop, from fresh, dried, flaked and powdered chillis to sauces, preserves, chocolate and plants. If you fancy having a go at growing your own chillis they sell seeds and the equipment, and of course, they’ll be happy to advise you on the best way to do it.

There’s a small café where you can get a hot or cold drink and cake, but because it’s such a lovely spot surrounded by the beautiful South Hams countryside, it’s a good idea to take a picnic, find somewhere peaceful to lay your rug and enjoy the views as you munch your sausage rolls and slurp your lemonade.

Dogs are welcome at South Devon Chilli Farm, though not, in the shop, and they must be kept on leads. Opening hours vary throughout the year so check the website before you go.
