South Petherton, Somerset
An attractive Hamstone village just off the A303 in Somerset, with a few little shops, a welcoming pub and a thriving arts centre, the David Hall; if you're staying nearby and you like folk music you'll find a good night out - mind you, once a year the town plays host to a very upbeat folk festival so you if you're here then, even better. The church is worth a visit, with its unusual octagonal tower, and actually, just to stroll around the narrow streets and hidden paths is a very pleasant way to pass a couple of hours. Several footpaths from the village take you on walks through the fields, and you can pick up part of the 50 mile long Parrett Trail from here. If you're peckish head to the Brewers Arms and Old Bakehouse Restaurant.
