Strawberry Trail, Botley, Hampshire
The Strawberry Trail is a 15 mile walking and cycling trail that runs from Botley to Netley in Hampshire, passing through the River Hamble valley and through a surprisingly varied landscape of farmland, woodland, river, coast, and country parks. What’s good is that it’s a figure of eight trail so you can do one loop or both, although the terrain is fairly easy throughout and it would be a shame to miss parts of it like the Itchen Valley Country Park and Manor Farm Country Park.
Why is it called the Strawberry Trail? Ah, that’s easy - this area was once famous for its strawberry growing, with horse drawn carts used to take the fruit from the fields to the Strawberry Special trains to London. Now you know how the trail got its name, the red markers with a strawberry on them make perfect sense.
