Tewkesbury Abbey, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire

This former Benedictine monastery stands as it has stood for over 900 years, proudly dominating the skyline on the southern edge of the small town of Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire. It is surely one of the best examples of Norman architecture in Britain with its long nave and large Romanesque tower; also of note is a very fine collection of medieval stained glass in the seven windows of the quire, as well as Victorian and more modern examples. They conduct pre-booked group tours and in July and August each year they do tours of the tower. Go and soak up the hallowed and tranquil atmosphere of this magnificent building; have tea and cake in the Touching Souls Tea Room and perhaps buy a souvenir from the Abbey Shop.
